▷ How to fix TWRP Can't mount storage, 0MB internal storage

Contents

Some TWRP users, especially those who install custom ROMs, sometimes they run into a roadblock where TWRP gives an error saying “Unable to mount storage”. The internal storage will also show as 0 MB in TWRP, even if you have a ton of free space.

What happens in most of these cases is that TWRP cannot decrypt your internal storage, just TWRP doesn't handle encrypted storage correctly. Another cause could be partition corruption / data and TWRP can't find it.

If you experience TWRP cannot mount storage and internal storage shows as 0mb, read this guide to find out how to fix it.

How to fix TWRP unable to mount storage

  1. The first thing to try is if your internal storage is encrypted in any way when you use a legacy screen lock method.

  2. Go to Settings> Security> Screen lock of your Android device and change the screen lock method to Pass or Nail. Create a new one.

  3. Reboot in TWRP, and it should ask for a password: enter the password or pin you just created.

  4. TWRP will try to decrypt your device's internal storage and, if successful, I shouldn't have any more problems. Despite this, if this doesn't solve your problem “cannot mount data, internal storage of 0 MB”, continue with the rest of this guide.

  5. Reboot your device in TWRP again.

  6. Go to Clean> Clean Ahead> Data and choose Repair or Change File System.

  7. Hit Repair File System to see if this fixes the problem. If that is not the case, go on.

  8. Press Change file system, choose Ext2 and slide to confirm.

  9. Now go back to Ext4 and swipe to confirm.

  10. Return to TWRP main menu, then to the mount menu and check if your partitions can be mounted now.

  11. If you still can't mount your partitions, need to repair internal partition, which will probably erase your internal storage.
