When using VirtualBox to emulate another OS on your OS, you may have inadvertently entered full screen mode or scaled mode. In this mode, you may have trouble getting back to windowed mode or want to change your virtual machine settings without restarting the VitualBox software. To exit scaled mode in VirtualBox, you need to follow the steps mentioned below.
How to get out of scaled mode?
The solution is very simple. You just have to press a combination of the Host key and C on your keyboard (tecla Host + C). You may be wondering about the host key. A host key in VirtualBox is a dedicated key that returns ownership of peripheral devices (keyboard and mouse) to the host operating system. In Windows, the host key is usually set to right Ctrl on the keyboard. And Mac, the default host key is usually the left command button.
Then, while in scaled or full screen mode within VirtualBox installed on Windows, you need to press the Ctrl key combination + C right to exit scaled mode. It would just activate the VirtualBox tabs at the top from where you can modify the settings according to your needs.
What if the host key is different from the default?
In case pressing Ctrl + Right C do not exit scaled mode, your host key is most likely different. To find out or change the host key, follow the steps below.
-
Open VirtualBox Manager and find File> preferences.
-
-
The first setting inside the virtual machine is the host key combination. From here you can see that the default shortcut for the host key on the keyboard is Right Ctrl. To change it to a different one, double click the host key, press the desired key on the keyboard and click OK. Make sure the Auto Capture Keyboard checkbox is enabled as shown in the image below.

Through this procedure, you can modify your host key to whatever you want.
