Connection failed with error 651

Contents

For most users whose computers don't have a Wi-Fi connection, your other option is to connect via LAN cable to the router. This is the case with tower desktops, unlike laptops. To dial a connection to the service provider, usually a modem is used between the router and the LAN wall socket. Landlords often provide this type of connection. Depending on your area, you may be using a PPPOE or PPPOA connection.

Modem connection is susceptible to error 651. This is a common error in Windows, especially on Windows 7 Y 8 if using a PPPOE modem connection. The error usually appears when trying to load a page with the browser or when trying to run applications, including games, they need to connect to the network. The same error appears when you try to connect to the modem from the networks available in the system tray. The error says “Error 651: The modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error”. Along with the error, an option is offered to redial and attempt a reconnection. However, your WLAN can still work fine even if you get this error.

Simply, what this error means is that the connection could not be completed because the modem could not be accessed or due to an authentication problem. There is no official method on how to resolve this error. If the problem is solved using the following methods, may be reconnected successfully.

Method 1: restart your computer, router and modem

When I restart the PC, the router and modem will reboot or retrieve the changes you have made. This is likely to make things work. Also check that the connections are secure and that they are not loose in any way.

  1. Save all your current work, close all open applications and then shut down your computer. Wait a minute.

  2. First, turn off your router and wait a couple of minutes.

  3. Now turn off your modem.

  4. Disconnect all the Ethernet cables that are connected to the router and the modem and the PC.

  5. Reconnect them and make sure there are no loose connections between them.

  6. Now, turn on your PC and let it boot.

  7. Power on the modem first and after it initializes, then turn on the router.

  8. Now test the connection.

If your WLAN is not working so well, then the problem is probably the modem cables or the LAN wall socket. You may need to contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for me to repair it.

Method 2: remove broadband modem as default connection

Setting your broadband modem as the default connection could conflict with other connections. This would be the case if you changed your ISP, modem or router. Then, Here's how to cancel your connection by default.

  1. Press the Windows key + R to open Run

  2. Type ncpa.cpl and hit enter to open the network connections window

  3. Right click on your broadband connection (in this case, the one with the property [WAN Miniport(PPPOE)]) and click »cancel as default connection«. This will remove it as the default connection and you will be able to connect successfully.

Method 3: update network drivers

Corrupt network drivers are likely, Missing or incompatible files are causing this problem because the connection between the PC and the modem cannot be completed. This usually happens after updating the operating system. To reinstall the drivers

  1. Press the Windows key + R to open Run

  2. Type devmgmt.msc and hit enter to open the device manager window

  3. Expand the network adapter section

  4. Right click on your network card and select $ 0027 Update the driver software … $ 0027

  5. In the next window, click on “Search automatically for updated driver software”

  6. Device manager will find your PC drivers and install your network card

You can also right-click on your network card and select “Uninstall” and restart your PC. This will reinstall the drivers you have removed. You can also go to the laptop manufacturer's website and download the correct drivers for your PC. Since your PC cannot update drivers automatically from the internet as there is no internet connection, this will help to solve the problem of incompatible drivers.
