Fast charging doesn't work

Contents

Fast charging is a concept that Qualcomm first invented in 2013. Since then, has been updated several times and adopted in different ways by many smartphone manufacturers. But most of us have heard of fast charging as the hottest new feature on the Samsung Galaxy S6..

Now, all major global smartphone companies use fast charging in one way or another. We live our lives in a way where every second matters, and fast charging can save us valuable time.

Technology is incredibly useful, as it can fully charge the phone in less than an hour. Some devices even manage to get 4 additional hours of use with just 10 charging minutes.

How does fast charging work?

To understand the power of fast charging, we need to analyze how normal chargers used to work. Up to now, chargers were careful not to allow too much current to enter the device because it had the potential to damage the battery and fry the phone in some cases.

Fast charging works with an increased voltage limit, allowing considerably shorter charging times. Even if it sounds risky, the technology has been around long enough to be safe. And no, the Note fiasco 7 it had nothing to do with fast charging.

But as with all developing technologies, things are not perfect. Users report fast charging issues only after purchasing their device. With this in mind, Let's take a look at the most common factors that will cause the phone to stop charging quickly:

  • Using a charger that does not support adaptive fast charging

  • Faulty adapter

  • Broken USB cable

  • Buildup of lint and dirt inside the micro-USB port (loading port)

  • Faulty charging port

  • Fast charging is disabled in Settings

  • Software problem

There is no way to identify the problem with a single step, so stay with us and follow each method in order until you can find a solution that allows fast charging or at least point out the problem. Let us begin.

before continuing:

  1. Make sure the charging cable is properly connected. You must apply a lot of force to insert it all the way, so don't be afraid to exert some force until you hear the cable snap.

  2. Reset the battery cycle by draining it completely until it shuts off and then charging it at once. 100% because this resets the battery cycle and should help correct any errors related to charging. Repeat this process at least 5-6 times before giving up.

  3. Lower the notification panel and change the screen brightness from automatic to manual and then back to automatic.

  4. Change the USB cable and if that doesn't fix it, try using any other fast charger.

Method 1: make sure fast charging is enabled from settings

Some manufacturers have the option to disable fast charging from the Settings menu. Who knows? You may have disabled it by mistake or a software update did it for you. Many Samsung Galaxy S6 users have noticed that fast charging was disabled with the Android update 6.0.1. Before doing anything else, here's how to make sure fast charging is turned on in your device settings:

  1. Open the application menu and tap on Settings.

  2. Tap Drums.

  3. Scroll to the last option. Make sure the switch next to Fast cable charging is on.

  4. Plug in the phone with the original charger and check if fast charging works. Otherwise, reboot the device and try again before proceeding to the next method.

Method 2: use of a certified fast charger

Making sure you are using a certified fast charger is incredibly important. A traditional charger will not be able to amplify the charging power as the certificates do. What's more, you should make sure that the wall charger you connect to has an output power of at least 2 amps.

Start by looking at your charger adapter. If it is able to charge fast, should be written on it. Depending on the manufacturer, I should say something like “Adaptive fast charging”, “Fast charge”, “Board loading” O “Fast charge”. If you don't see any fast charging related to your adapter, you are probably trying to fast charge with a charger that cannot.

If your charger, in fact, says it supports fast charging, continue with next method.

Method 3: use a different USB cable

In most cases, USB cable breaks before adapter. Using a faulty USB cable does not necessarily mean that the phone stops charging completely. In some cases, only one of the two gold connectors inside the micro USB slot will break, which will make the phone not charge quickly, but it will still be able to recharge in normal mode.

Let's prove this to be the case by replacing the USB cable with another. Replace just the cable, but still use the same wall charger. If it charges quickly with this cable just inserted, then you should get rid of the old one.

If it didn't work, there is still something else to do here if you have the means. If possible, test charger combination / cable that was not charging properly on another fast-charging device. If it doesn't work with the other device, the problem is most likely the charger.

Method 4: remove accumulated lint and dirt

If the above methods have not worked, it might be worth looking inside the loading port for lint, dirt or other debris. Sometimes, buildup of dirt and lint around the connectors will make it difficult to transfer electricity. Here's a quick guide to make sure that doesn't happen:

  1. Start by using a flashlight to look inside the micro-USB port. Do you see any signs of strange material? If you see it, keep going.

  2. Turn off your phone completely and use a pair of small tweezers, a needle or toothpick to remove any large buildup of debris.

  3. Dip a small cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and let it sit for a while.

  4. Use the cotton swab to make circular motions inside the charging port to remove any remaining dirt.

  5. Let your phone dry for an hour or two before turning it back on.

  6. Plug the charger back in and check whether it is charging fast or not.

Method 5: load in safe mode

If it hasn't been uploaded yet, rule out the possibility of a software conflict. We can do this by starting the device in safe mode and seeing if it is able to charge quickly..

While in Safe Mode, your device will not run the apps you have installed so far and will only depend on the preloaded apps that come with the device. Let's start by entering safe mode:

  1. With the phone on, press and hold the power button for several seconds.

  2. When you see the power options menu, press and hold Power off.

  3. If you have pressed the Power off option correctly for a long time, you will get a hidden message asking if you want to restart in safe mode. Click ok.

  4. You will now be in safe mode checking if the Safe Mode icon is present in the lower left corner of the screen.

  5. While in safe mode, plug in your charger and see if it charges quickly. If it does not work, proceed to the next and last method.

However, if fast charging is done in safe mode, you clearly have an application conflict. Now you need to uninstall all recently downloaded apps that you think may interfere with fast loading. If you installed battery management apps, I would start with them. Here's a quick guide:

  1. Go to Settings> Application Manager> Discharged.

  2. Touch the app you want to uninstall.

  3. Press Uninstall and press OK to confirm.

  4. Repeat the procedure for each application that you think may be responsible for the software conflict and start from safe mode to see if the problem is fixed.

Method 6: do a factory reset

If uninstalling the hidden apps has not restored your device's fast charging ability, there is one more step you can take before sending it in for repair. But hopefully, doing a factory reset will fix your problem.
Note: before continuing, you should know that a factory reset will erase all your personal data present on the phone. It is recommended to create a backup before doing a factory reset.

  1. Go to Settings> Advanced configuration.

  2. Tap on Backup and reset and see if backups are enabled on your device. If you don't have a backup, should do it now.

  3. Scroll down and tap Factory data reset.

  4. Tap on Restart phone and wait for the process to complete.

  5. Wait for your phone to reboot and check if fast charging works properly.

Method 7: clear cache

In some cases, USB drivers installed on the phone may be keeping a bad cache, so this problem is triggered. Then, in this step, we will clear this cache and then check if that fixes our problem. For that:

  1. Slide the notification panel and select the button “Setting”.

  2. Click on the option “Applications”.

  3. In the upper right corner, select the «Three dots» and then click the button »Show system applications«. everything-you-need-disable-your-galaxy-s8-s8-for-privacy-security-w1456-2-4497562Clicking on the option «Show system applications»

  4. Please select “USB configuration” Y / O “USB” of the list.

  5. Click on the option “Storage” after selecting and clicking the button “Delete data”.

  6. What's more, Press the button “Clear cache” and restart the phone. screenshot_20151013-120631-635x1129-1-2-2310424Pressing the "Clear cache" button

  7. Check if the problem persists.

Method 8: disable USB debugging

In some cases, the error can be triggered if USB debugging mode has been enabled on your mobile. Therefore, it is recommended to disable this mode and check if the fast charge function works. For it:

  1. Dragging the notification panel and pressing the option “Setting”. screenshot_2019-04-08-00-09-36-1-7-7922411Dragging the notification panel and pressing the option “Setting”

  2. Scroll down and click “System”.

  3. Select the button “Developer options” and then click the button “USB debugging” to deactivate it. usb-debugging-android-601-1-4959074Disable USB debugging in developer options

  4. After deactivation, check if the problem persists.

If you've been through all of the above methods and haven't fast-charged again to get it working on your device, sorry to say, but there is a high probability that your device suffers from serious hardware failure. If it's under warranty, don't be shy and ask for a replacement early on. Some charging ports are connected to the display, so if you have a faulty charging port, you will get a free replacement screen.
