How to fix a Sony Vaio laptop that won't turn on

Contents

If you have a Sony Vaio, it's very likely that you have the problem of not turning it on. Many Sony Vaio users face this problem when their laptop suddenly stops working. Each time you press the button, the green light comes on for a few seconds and then turns off. You can press the power button as many times as you want, but the green light will only come on for few seconds and you will be in front of your laptop black screen. This is quite annoying, since it can happen at any time without prior notice, even if your device worked fine throughout the last use.

The main reason behind this is yet to be confirmed. You may have a bad battery, a faulty motherboard or just a device with a manufacturing fault. Most of the time, your device will be replaced with a new one if it is still in the warranty period; opposite case, you may need to take it to a repair shop.

But there are a few tricks that will save you a lot of time and money.. You must first try the method 1. If that fails, try the method 2 to fix the problem and, hopefully, you will find where the problem is.

Before trying these methods, make sure you have verified these things

Things to check before trying the methods 1 Y 2

  1. Make sure your battery is charged. Keep your AC input plugged in for a while

  2. Make sure your AC adapter works. Most of the time there is a light on the adapter that indicates whether it is receiving power or not. If there is no indicator, try using it with another laptop to check if it charges the other device

  3. Make sure you are using the original Sony Vaio adapter and not a third party adapter

  4. Make sure your adapter is plugged into the wall outlet and not with an overload or extension cord (your extension could be faulty)

Method 1: unplug the battery and AC adapter

  1. First turn off your laptop and unplug its AC input.

  2. Remove the battery

    1. Flip the laptop over to lift its negative side

    2. Slide the battery lock switch (indicated with a form of lock or with writing) to unlock position

    3. Now slide the battery latch and hold a finger on it. Don't release the latch

    4. You should now be able to see the battery loosen a bit. Lift the battery, and then slide it diagonally to remove it.

  3. Press the power button for 58 seconds then release

  4. Put the battery back

    1. Slide the battery lock switch to the unlock position (if you haven't done it yet)

    2. Slide the battery diagonally into the battery compartment until it snaps onto both sides of the battery compartment.

    3. Push the battery down (towards the release latch) until it clicks. You can see that the battery is fixed in the battery compartment

    4. Slide the battery lock switch to the lock position

  5. Connect AC input and turn on laptop

Note: The steps to remove and insert the battery may vary slightly depending on your specific model.. If you are not sure, follow the steps mentioned in the user manual (that comes with the device and is enabled online) of your Sony Vaio.

Method 2: unplug everything and direct AC method

  1. First turn off your laptop and unplug its AC input.

  2. Remove all external devices like mouse, keyboard, etc.

  4. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds then release

  5. Connect the AC input (No battery) and press the power button. If your laptop works properly, means the battery is faulty, so get a new one or have it checked by a repair shop

If you recently installed a new RAM in your device, then remove it by following the user manual that came with your Sony Vaio or by going to a repair shop and then try the method 2. If your laptop works, means the RAM was faulty. .

If none of the methods mentioned here works, contact customer service or go to a repair shop near your home.
