How to fix Java error code 1618

The error code “1618” It is a fairly common error in Windows that is requested from the Microsoft Installer (.msi) which indicates that another .msi is currently being processed. Users encounter this installation error when installing Java on their computers.

Note that this error code does not necessarily mean that there must be another instance of Java running in the background. There may be some other installation in progress that could block the Java installation. This error is legitimate if you have an installation in progress. Then, you must wait and let the existing installation finish. Thereafter, you can try installing java again.

What causes the “java error code 1618”?

As mentioned earlier, this error message caused by a crash in the Microsoft installer. However, There are also other reasons why your installation may fail. Some of them are:

Microsoft Installer service has an error status. If the service is not working properly, the Java installation process will not continue.
The existing Java installation is corrupt and incomplete.

The solutions below point to all the problems you may face. Make sure you are logged in as an administrator and have an active internet connection.

Solution 1: restart the service $ 0027MSIEXEC.EXE $ 0027

Solution 2: use offline installer

If restarting the service doesn't work, you can try using the installer offline. The default Java installer downloads files from the Internet while they are being downloaded. If this does not work as expected and the Windows installer cannot recover the files, this error message may appear. The offline installer is a larger file but it already has all the modules present, so you don't have to download anything when installing it.

Remove all existing instances of Java from your computer. Now navigate to the official Java website and download the offline installer from there (Windows offline).

After downloading the installer, right click on the app and select “Execute as an administrator”. After installation, restart your computer completely and check if the error message has been resolved.

Solution 3: disable antivirus software

As mentioned earlier, antivirus software blocks access to any program that it suspects is infecting the computer system. This behavior is called a false positive and there are many reports that Java does not install because of this. The most common antivirus known to cause this problem was McAfee.

Open the update settings as we did before and click on View update history. In the next window, select Uninstall updates.

In the Microsoft Windows tab, right-click on the problematic update and select Uninstall.

After uninstalling the update, restart your computer correctly and try launching the Java installer again.

Solution 5: Clean boot your computer

If all the above methods don't work and you keep getting the “java error code 1618” when installing java, you can try to start your computer cleanly. This mode powers up your system with a minimal set of drivers and programs and only system services are running. Once in clean boot, you can try installing java and, if successful, means that there was some third party program in conflict with our installer.

Press Windows + R to start the application Run. Type »msconfig» in the dialog box and press Enter.
Navigate to the Services tab present at the top of the screen. Check the line that says »Hide all Microsoft services«. Once you click here, all Microsoft related services will be disabled leaving behind all third party services (you can also disable all Microsoft related processes and check more extensively for third party services causing the problem).
Now click on the button »Deactivate all» present at the bottom near the left of the window. All third party services will now be disabled.
Click Apply to save changes and exit.

Now navigate to the Startup tab and click on the option »Open Task Manager«. You will be redirected to the task manager where all the apps will be listed / services that run when the computer starts.
