How to fix the error “The installation package could not be opened” in Windows?

What causes the error “The installation package could not be opened”?

After receiving numerous reports from various users, we decided to investigate the problem and came up with a set of solutions to completely fix it. What's more, We investigate the reasons why it is activated and list them as follows.

• Installation service: This error occurs because the installation service has stopped, the service is in charge of installing all the packages on the computer and if it stops the installation of the packages is also prevented.

• Administrative privileges: some installation packages may require special administrator permissions to install them. If these permissions are not provided, the installer could cause this error.

Now that you have a basic understanding of the nature of the problem, let's move on to the solutions. Be sure to apply them in the specific order they are presented to avoid conflicts.

Solution 1: launch service

Since the installation service has stopped, installation of any packages will be prevented until the service is started again. Therefore, in this step, we will start the service. For that:

1. Pulse »Windows» + »R» to open the run prompt.

2. Go to »Services. msc »and press» Enter «. Type "Services.msc" and press "Enter"

3. Scroll down and double click on the service »Windows Installer«. Double click on the "Windows Installer" service

4. Click the »Start» button to start the installation service. Selecting «Start»

5. Go back to the desk, right-click anywhere and select »Update«.

6. Try to install the package now and check if the problem persists.

Solution 2: register as administrator

If the problem is not solved with the start-up of the service, may be due to lack of permissions. Therefore, in this step, we will connect to an administrator account. For that:

1. Pulse »Windows» + »R» to open the run prompt.

2. Type »cmd» and press »Ctrl» + »Shift» + »Enter» to provide administration privileges. Type cmd at the run prompt and press “Shift” + “Ctrl” + “Enter”

3. Type the following command and press »Enter» to execute it.

   net user administrator /active:yes

4. Log out of your account and select the account »Administrator«.

5. Try installing the package and see if the problem persists.
