This behavior is observed in both cases; in new and old mice (more than a year). This problem is officially recognized by Logitech and Microsoft and they have both provided soft fixes to fix the problem.. In this post, we will go through all possible solutions and see if we can fix your mouse.

What makes the Logitech mouse double click?

The problem of double clicking for different mice has been around for quite some time. It is a known fact that many mice end their lives after demonstrating this problem when used for a long time.. To sum up, These are some of the reasons why your Logitech mouse might double click instead of just one.

  • Hardware problem: We come across many scenarios where the mouse double clicked instead of single click due to hardware issues and such issues could further cause the scroll wheel to jump instead of scrolling. We can try to fix this problem, but there are no guarantees.

  • Mouse Settings: mouse settings can be configured to double click instead of single click. This feature has been in Windows for quite some time and can give you the illusion that there is an obstacle with your mouse.

  • Static accumulated charge: if the mouse is used intensively for a long time, static charge can build up, what can cause the problem.

  • Spring is loose: the spring inside the click mechanism may have come loose with use over time. We can try to remedy it, but there is no guarantee that it will work.

  • Driver issues: the drivers installed on your computer may not work properly. They may be corrupt or out of date and, at the same time causing this problem, this may also prevent the Logitech software from starting.

Before continuing with the solutions, make sure your mouse is not physically damaged. If any component breaks after a fall, etc., you will not be able to repair it with any solution.

Note: before continuing, you should try to connect the mouse to other computers. This will help identify if it is a roadblock with the settings stored in Windows or a hardware roadblock..

Solution 1: Check your mouse settings

There is a high probability that the mouse settings set on the computer are not configured correctly and, because of this, accidental double clicks are performed. The mouse will work properly; its behavior will change only by changing Windows settings. We will check each setting one by one and see if adjusting it fixes the problem.

  1. Press Windows + R, type »control» in the dialog box and press Enter. Once in the control panel, select Large icons present at the top right of the screen. Now select the Mouse option.

According to our user reports, also there are several cases in which the mouse, after being used for long periods of time, could develop a static charge. This can cause you to double click instead of just one. We will follow a very simple method to discharge all static charge and see if this fixes the problem.

Solution 4: submit a warranty claim to Logitech

To file a warranty claim, you must navigate to the official Logitech warranty claims web portal and submit a request with the appropriate serial numbers and product descriptions.

Solution 5: trying to repair the spring

If you have no warranty for your mouse, we can try to fix your mouse click mechanism. Each button has a small click mechanism present under the body of the mouse that is activated when the button is pressed. The spring inside this mechanism may be loose or broken.

Please note that this could dismantle and render your mouse unusable if you do not perform the indicated steps, therefore proceed with extreme caution.

  1. Locate the screws under the mouse and unscrew the mouse body. After unscrewing the body, remove it carefully without disturbing the internal architecture.

Note: you may need to remove the protective cover from the screws to open it.

  1. Now you need to locate the click mechanism that is causing the problem. For this case, both left and right click may not work. Notice the white button at the top. When we remove the casing, will fall, therefore be careful.

  1. Now we have to remove the black housing from the click mechanism. To open the cover, you can use a flat blade screwdriver and gently lift the latch cover. This will help remove the cover slightly so you can do the same on the back.

  1. Now you need to use the screwdriver as shown in the picture to bend the curve while holding it with your finger to determine a proper curve. This will create more stress when used in operation.

  1. Now the tedious part. You must reinstall the tension spring by placing it on the small hook on the front of the mechanism., as it is shown in the picture. Then use the flat head screwdriver to push the curved tab into place while keeping the back of the spring under the small arm at the back of the mechanism.. Pay particular attention to the arrows labeled in the second image (these are the points you need to focus on or the mouse won't work).

  1. Now we are ready to reassemble the click mechanism. First, install the little white button (preferably with tweezers). Hold the cap with one hand and with the other, flip the body as shown and connect.

  1. Before putting the whole body back on, be sure to do a few clicks test. If you click correctly, can reassemble the whole body. Now try to connect to the computer and check if the problem has been resolved.

Note: These steps are advanced and may require a lot of patience. They cannot be performed by an average user who runs the risk of rendering the mouse unusable.
