The error $ 0027 No usable free extension could be found $ 0027 appears when trying to create a partition with the DiskPart utility. This could happen if Windows does not recognize the disk you are trying to partition on or if there is not enough space on the drive, as the error message suggests. The DiskPart utility, formerly known as fdisk, is a command line interface that allows you to partition your hard drive. However, errors reported in the utility are often difficult to handle as, as we mentioned before, it is a command line interface and does not come with that graphical interface that we are used to.

However, do not worry, since we are going to review the causes of the problem in this article, and then we will mention some solutions that you can apply for, hopefully, isolate your problem.
What causes the error “No usable free rating could be found”?
Well, the possible causes of the error message are quite clear, as they are mentioned in the error message itself. exist:
-
Insufficient space: Well, this error can occur because there may not be enough space on the disk on which you want to create the partition. In that case, what you can do is check the available disk space and then create partition accordingly.
-
Disk not recognized: Another cause of this error could be that Windows cannot recognize the disk correctly, which means Windows cannot write to the device you are trying to partition. A quick solution would be to simply reinsert the disk, but if that doesn't work, check out the solutions below.
Now that we are done with the causes of the problem, let's get into the possible solutions because no matter what the cause is, this error can be really annoying.
Solution 1: uninstall device driver from Device Manager (for USB sticks)
If you are using a USB memory, Windows may not be able to interact with it properly due to a driver problem or Windows did not recognize the device, which is probably the case with a USB stick. In order to solve it, do the following:
-
Right-click on My Computer and click Properties.
-
Once the window opens, click Device Manager, which will be located on the right side.
-
Expand the category $ 0027 Universal serial bus drivers $ 0027 and find your USB stick.
-
Then right click and select Properties. Once in the properties window, switch to the driver tab and then click the button »Uninstall device«.

-
By last, unplug your USB stick and plug it in again.
Hopefully, this will fix your problem of partitioning the USB with diskpart and remove this error.
Solution 2: use a partition tool other than DiskPart
There are other partition tools that are actually easier to use (graphical user interface) and they are better than Diskpart. One of these tools is the MiniTool Partition Wizard. You can use that tool to format, create or resize a partition in Windows.
Solution 3: Run DiskPart with administrator privileges
Another thing you can try is to run the DiskPart utility using admin access. By default, the utility runs with normal privileges and not with administrative privileges. So you can try running it as administrator and see if it works. To do this, follow the indicated instructions:
-
Open the start menu and type cmd. When you see the cmd icon, right-click and select »Run as administrator«.
-
Later, run diskpart by typing diskpart at command prompt, which should open it as administrator.
Administrator CMD – DiskPart
If your problem is caused by not running diskpart with sufficient privileges, this would fix it.
Solution 4: wipe the disk with DiskPart
However, by doing this, your data could be deleted, so you should test it only on USB disk or device where you don't care about your data or where you already have a backup of your data. Then, explains how to clean the disc:
-
Open the disk part.
-
Once this is done, select the device you are dealing with by typing select [device number] without brackets. Usually 1 O 0 (if you don't have a large number of connected devices).
-
Finally, type clean to clean your disk.
Clean the disk using DiskPart
-
Thereafter, create partition on disk. Then, for example, if you want to create a primary ntfs partition, type these two commands:
create partition primary formato fs=ntfs quick
Note: you can remove the quick snippet if you are not in a hurry. What's more, to make a fat32 partition instead, you just have to replace ntfs with fat32.
