One problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting in Windows 10

Contents

This problem is a common problem that occurs in Windows. Appears when you try to run Windows' built-in troubleshooting feature to fix the problems or when you try to run the official Microsoft Fix It tools that you downloaded from their site. As soon as you run the troubleshooter, you will get the error message mentioned above.

It can be solved in many ways, taking into account that the error itself is not so obvious. There are several methods you can use to fix it and we have decided to list them below.

How to fix $ 0027 One problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting to $ 0027

  • Solution 1: use the SFC scanner

  • Solution 2: check if default path to temp folder has been changed

  • Solution 3: start crypto service

  • Solution 4: perform a system restore

Solution 1: use the SFC scanner

Although the SFC scanner hardly solves real problems (although Microsoft staff recommend it all the time), this time it seems that the problem can be solved through this built-in Windows tool.

Use the SFC.exe tool (System file checker) accessed through the administrative command console. The tool will scan Windows system files for missing or broken files and is capable of instantly repairing or replacing files.

This can be very useful if you need those files for the troubleshooting process, as this error appears if there is a problem with one of the system files used to run the troubleshooter.

For detailed instructions on how to operate this tool, see our article on the subject: How: Run the SFC scanner in Windows 10.

Solution 2: check if default path to temp folder has been changed

Some users have used other troubleshooting methods and tips suggested by online users to change the default path of the Temp folder to another location. Windows seems not to like this and reports this error when you try to run a troubleshooter. The Temp folder contains several important but temporary files used by various services, so it is important to return it to its place.

  1. Right click on My Computer / This PC according to your Windows operating system and choose the Properties option. Thereafter, locate the Advanced System Settings button in the right pane of the Properties window, click on it and navigate to the Advanced tab.

  1. At the bottom right of the Advanced tab, you will see Environment Variables option, so click on it and you will see a list of all system variables in the System variables section.

  2. Scroll down until you find the TEMP and TMP variables. The value of both variables must be “C: NWINDOWSTEMP”. If it's configured for something else, select it and press the Edit button.

  1. Below the value of the variable, be sure to enter “% SystemRoot% TEMP”, as this will work even if you give up your drive name or if you switch to a new version of Windows. Apply the changes, restart your computer and see if the troubleshooting works as it should.

Solution 3: start crypto service

Another big culprit for this error is a broken cryptographic service that was stopped by another application or by a bug in Windows.. Either way, you need to start the service to get rid of the error message you are currently dealing with. The process is quite simple and has helped many users to fix the problem. Good luck!

  1. Open the Run dialog box using the Windows keyboard key combination + R. Scribe “services.msc” in the box without the quotes and click OK to open Services.

  1. Find the Crypto Service in the list of services, right click on it and select Properties from the context menu that appears.

  2. If the service starts (you can mark it right next to the service status message), you should detect it immediately by clicking the Stop button in the middle of the window. If you are detained, leave it as it is (for now, of course).

  1. Make sure that the Startup Type menu option in the Credential Management Service properties is set to Automatic before continuing with the instructions. Confirm the dialog boxes that may appear when setting the startup type. Click the Start button in the center of the window before exiting.

You may receive the following error message when clicking Start:

‘Windows could not start the crypto service on the local computer. Error 1079: the account specified for this service differs from the account specified for other services running in the same process.

If this happens, follow the instructions below to fix it.

  1. Follow the steps 1 a 3 from the previous instructions to open the Cryptography Service properties. Go to the login tab and click the Browse button …

  1. In the frame “Enter the name of the object to select”, write the name of your account, click Verify Names and wait for the name to be recognized.

  2. Click OK when done and type your password in the Password box when prompted, if you have set a password. Now it should start smoothly!

Solution 4: perform a system restore

Unfortunately, sometimes this error does not come alone. The same thing that prevents the problematic troubleshooter from starting can prevent other services on your computer such as Windows Update, SFC, DISM, etc. These things have some common dependencies and probably the quickest way to fix them is to perform a System Restore.

This will restore your computer to a state it was in before the error started to occur, so it is important that you think carefully about when the error started to occur and choose a restore point before then.

  1. First, we will start the System Restore utility on your PC. Find System Restore by clicking on the Start menu and just start typing. From there, click Create a restore point.

  1. A System Restore window will appear showing the current settings. Inside this window, open Protection Settings and make sure protection is enabled on the system drive.

  2. If you are disabled by chance, select that disk and click the Configure button to enable protection. You must also provide a sufficient amount of disk space to protect the system. Click Apply and then OK to apply the settings.

  1. Now the system will create a restore point automatically every time a new program is installed or a major change occurs on the computer.

After successfully activating the tool, let's return the PC to a state where the error has not occurred “A problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting”. Make sure to back up some important documents and applications that you have created or installed in the meantime, just to make sure you created them recently.

  1. Find System Restore with the Search button next to the Start menu and click Create a restore point. Inside the System Properties window, click System Restore.

  1. Inside the System Restore window, select the option called Choose a different restore point and click the Next button.

  2. Select a particular restore point that you have saved before manually. You can also select any available restore point in the list and hit the Next button to proceed with the restore process. Make sure you choose the correct one. Once the process is complete, will return to the state your computer was in at the time.

Note: If this doesn't work by chance and if you get an error during any step, We will try to start System Restore from the Recovery menu instead of the classic method because many users who solved their problem using this method were actually unable to Start System Restore with Windows loaded.

  1. On the login screen, click the power icon and hold the Shift key while clicking restart. This is a great shortcut to access the recovery menu without having to insert the recovery DVD.

  2. Instead, or when restarting, a blue screen will appear with various options. Choose Troubleshoot >> Advanced Options >> System Restore and have your computer open the tool.

  1. The steps required to restore the PC are the same as in the second set of the method described below. When the process is complete, your computer should boot normally to see if the problem persists.
