Windows 10 has had many advantages, but it has been one of the most difficult systems to update due to the numerous errors consumers encounter during installation. One of them is the error 0x8007025D that appears and stops the installation after a certain percentage. Trying again will only get the same error. Several people who have searched for answers online indicated that they were running a clean install from their USB drive.
This page will explain why error 0x8007025D appears. The error can be due to various problems, but they are all related to USB buffering system. After a brief explanation of what the error means, we will give you the steps to solve it.
What is error 0x8007025D?
According to Windows support, 0x8007025D = ERROR_BAD_COMPRESSION_BUFFER = specified buffer contains malformed data. USB 3.0 use message break mode (MSI) for communications with the system. USB 2.0 use the interrupt request system (IRQ) much older. A feature of the new MSI system used by USB devices 3.0 is the asynchronous handling of data transfer between the device and the system. This requires a buffer through which data is transmitted at high data rates. (“SuperSpeed”), which is then decoded by the system. If you receive error 0x8007025D, so your PNY devices are probably sending bad or corrupted data to buffers, your device buffers are blocked or your device cannot decode data properly. These are the reasons why you might be getting this error.
Corrupt data on USB drive means that this data cannot be decoded properly, what causes this error. The corrupted data may come from the corrupted .ISO image file used to create the bootable USB drive. If the file to be copied is missing or damaged, you will get this error. The problem can also arise from a faulty flash drive that is damaged or unreadable in a certain section. In case you have connected another USB device that reads as another disk drive, data sent to the buffer by this device may cause the error.
Wrong HDD or SSD space
If the hard disk or solid state drive (SSD) You have a bad sector or registry and Windows Setup tries to copy files to this space, an error is returned to the buffer, which in turn shows error 0x8007025D. This may be due to prolonged use of disk space (for example, to play computer games) or to the storage space that needs to be verified or formatted. A faulty hard drive can also be the problem causing error 0x8007025D.
RAM bags the corrupt
Bad RAM is also likely the cause of this error. Since a clean install doesn't fight for space with other programs, means that all RAM can be dedicated to Windows installation 10, so even a small corrupt or faulty section of RAM can cause this problem. Windows 10 need at least 1 GB of RAM to install. If data is copied to the wrong section of RAM, buffer technology will get an error, so it will show error 0x8007025D on your screen.
Solutions to fix error 0x8007025D
These are the things you need to do to solve the problems. If the first method doesn't work for you, go to the next, as this error can be the result of several different problems. We have listed them starting from the simplest and least expensive method to the most difficult and expensive method.

Disconnect all your USB devices and other peripheral devices, including internet cable. Most of the time, Windows installation will fail due to faulty or outdated hardware drivers.
It also turns out that after copying the files to the computer, Windows installation may no longer need the USB drive. Just unplug the drive and see if the installation continues from where you left off.
Please try again to see if it works, but, go to next method.
Method 2: reduce the size of hard drive or SSD space and format it
You only need a few 20 GB of space to install Windows 10. We recommend that you shrink your installation partition to about 125 GB. This will reduce the chances that the space you are copying to is corrupted. You can reduce disk space by clicking the »extend» option after choosing custom Windows installation 10. However, make sure your hard drive is in good shape and not damaged in any way.
If you are doing a clean install, make sure to format the partition you are installing on. This will remove bad sectors and registers. To format your partition, choose to install a windows 10 personalized, click the button »format» and accept formatting.
Try the installation again.
Method 3: download a new Windows ISO image file 10
There is a possibility that the image file you downloaded has a corrupted file that will not be decoded or copied. The file may very well not be on the USB drive or on the disk, especially if you downloaded it by creating images.
You will have to download the files again, create your USB installation drive and then try the installation again. To download the Windows .ISO file 10, go to Microsoft page here. You will also receive instructions on how to download and use the Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB drive..
Method 4: try writing the image to another USB drive
In the event that your USB drive is damaged or has an unreadable section, buffer technology will catch this error and throw error 0x8007025D on your screen.
Therefore, you will need another USB drive for this method. Create the installation files on the new drive and try the installation again. Creating the installation drive from another computer can help solve the problem.
If you used USB 3.0 before, you can try using a USB port 2.0, since it uses a different technology than USB 3.0 to read the data.
Here's our guide on how to use Rufus to create a bootable USB media device for Windows 10. If you want to use Microsoft's Media Creation Tool to create your drive, follow the instructions here.
Method 5: run a memory diagnostic on your RAM and replace a faulty RAM
If all the above methods have failed, so this is the most expensive method here and this is probably the problem with your PC. However, this has resolved the error of most installations. It seems that the Windows settings 10 you prefer not to install Windows on your device if you encounter bad RAM, instead of failing all the time after installation.
If you have two bars of RAM, each of at least 1 GB, you can try to remove any of the bars and try the installation (change it if the first one returns an error). You can also check for RAM errors using the BIOS memory diagnostic tool. To run a memory diagnostic simply:
-
Immediately after starting the PC, press the f2 key, f8 o f10 (according to the computer) repeatedly to enter the BIOS setup window.
-
Use the left and right arrow keys to select “Diagnosis”.
-
Use the up and down arrow keys to select the memory test and then press the Enter key to start the test.. Take note of mistakes
If it persists or finds an error in your RAM, replace it and try the installation again.
Note:
We also received reports from several users that reverting the BIOS to the default settings along with changing the RAM solved the problem instantly.. If all the above methods don't work, you can try this and see if this fixes the problem.
