▷ Solution: iaStorA.sys blue screen

Some users have reported BSOD flaws (blue screen of death) which point to iaStorA.sys as the culprit. Most of the time, the reported error code associated with the BSOD crash is DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (iaStorA.sys) o SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (iaStorA.sys).

This particular error code indicates that a violation occurred in iaStorA.sys, which is part of Intel RST (Rapid storage technology). This is usually an indicator that a kernel mode driver tried to access pageable memory in an IRQL process that was too high. Normally, this error is due to drivers using wrong addresses, in our case, el secador Intel Rapid Storage Technology.

If you currently have problems with DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (iaStorA.sys) o SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (iaStorA.sys), the following methods will probably help you solve the problem. Method 1: remove IRST drivers

Most of the users have managed to solve the problem after finally deciding to uninstall the IRST drivers (Intel Rapid Storage Technology). The IRST feature in Windows has a strong and painful history of being troublesome and, often, completely unnecessary (in Windows 8 and Windows 10).

If you frequently encounter BSOD failures caused by iaSTORA.sys and the first method did not solve the problem, follow the steps below to remove IRST drivers from your computer.

One way to do this is to remove the IRST from device manager. Here is a quick guide to do this:

1. Open a start box by pressing the Windows key + R and type »devmgmt.msc» and hit Enter to open Device Manager.

   

2. In Device Manager, expand IDE ATA controllers / ATAPI and systematically uninstall each entry there by right-clicking each one and choosing Uninstall.

   Note: Don't worry about uninstalling all IDE ATA drivers / ATAPI, will not interrupt any functionality. Windows will automatically reinstall the removed drivers that are necessary for the proper functioning of your operating system.

3. After all IDE ATA drivers have been uninstalled / ATAPI, restart your PC and check your machine to see if the BSOD returns. If that is not the case, just solved the problem.

Note: This is the preferred approach to do this via IDE ATA controllers / ATAPI, but some users report that this is not applicable. Some users have reported that IDE controllers / ATAPI could not be uninstalled because the IDE controller did not populate the Device Manager. If the above steps didn't work for you, continue with Method 2 to replace faulty IRST drivers with newer versions.

Method 2: update Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers

If you were unable to uninstall the IRST drivers using the method 1, most likely, updating the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver to a newer version will overwrite the old one.

Some users who were unable to uninstall the IRST drivers from Device Manager have managed to resolve the issue by downloading and installing the latest version of the ISRT driver from Intel's official website. Here's how to do it:

1. Visit this link (here), click on the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver (Intel RST), then download the SetupRST.exe installer and accept the terms of the license agreement.

   

2. Open the SetupRST installer and follow the onscreen instructions to install the latest version of Intel Rapid Storage Technology.

   Note: If you get an incompatibility error when you open SetupRST.exe, download and open this driver (here) instead.

3. Once the platform drivers are installed, close the installation and restart the computer. From the next start, monitor your computer to see if the BSOD crashes caused by iaStorA.sys have stopped.

If the same BSOD failures still bother you (DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (iaStorA.sys), continue to final method.

Method 3: do a clean install / restart windows

If the above two methods did not allow you to eliminate unexpected BSOD failures, a clean install or reboot is probably the only option for now.
