One of these errors is »Could not initialize the BattlEye service: Generic error «. This error occurs when the game cannot start the BattlEye service due to generic errors. The particular generic error means that the error is nothing specific and is most likely something as simple as an antivirus blocking of missing modules in the installation folder.

What cause “BattlEye service failed to start”: generic error $ 0027?

As mentioned earlier, this error message is very generic and can occur for the following reasons:

  • Antivirus software is blocking the start of BattlEye.

  • Your computer has put BattlEye in an error state and needs to be updated.

  • BattlEye installation files are corrupted or some modules are missing from the installation folder.

  • BattleEye is not properly installed on your computer. Games automatically install the service when they are running. When omitted, the error being discussed occurs.

Before proceeding to implement the solutions, make sure you have an active internet connection and are logged in as an administrator. We need elevated privileges to solve this problem.

Solution 1: Power cycle your system

Power cycling is an act of completely shutting down your computer for a few minutes so that all temporary data is erased. If there is any discrepancy in the data saved by BattlEye, this will solve it.

If you have a PC, turn off the computer and remove the main switch from the power supply. Now wait a few 10 minutes before reconnecting anything. If you have a laptop, turn it off and remove the battery. There is something like a lever that, when it moves, makes the battery go out. Wait a few 10 minutes before turning it back on. Once the computer turns on, launch the game and see if the error message is gone.

Solution 2: disable antivirus software

Antivirus software is another reason you may experience this error message. Games consume a lot of resources and also start different services by themselves. BattlEye is one of these services and, like any other game service, it also consumes a lot of CPU usage and network data packets. Therefore, it is normal for antivirus software to give a false positive and deny access.

Even if it seems that the service is not blocked, it is recommended to temporarily disable all antivirus software, including Windows Defender, on your computer and verify it. There were several instances where the BattlEye service was whitelisted, but the antivirus software kept interfering and stopping its operation. You can check our article on How to disable antivirus.

Solution 3: Stop other game services

If you play more than one game, it is recommended that you ensure that no other services related to that game are running. The games use more or less the same framework and if a game is already accessing the services, can cause problems if another game requests access. Note that a game does not need to have services running, even if it's not open. There are remnant back-end services that can continue to work.

Solution 4: update BattlEye service

Fortunately, BattlEye developers noticed this issue and released an update later. You most likely have the latest version of BattlEye, but it is recommended that you check it again before playing again. To update BattlEye, make sure to update your game to the latest version and check the files.

Make sure you have an active internet connection on your computer and see if there are any pending updates. If there are, install updates as soon as possible. Restart your computer later and check if the error message has disappeared.

Solution 5: Instale BattlEye (if not installed by default)

Normally, whenever a game is installed, BattlEye installs automatically by default, as it is considered an essential part of the whole game. However, according to users, there were several cases where the game did not correctly install the service application. We will navigate to the already downloaded BattlEye directory and install it manually from there.

  1. Navigate to the following directory:

Steam> SteamApps> common> Weapon 2> BEsetup

The above path is from the Steam directory. Steam can be installed anywhere on your computer, so carry on from there. What's more, in this case, the game that didn't work was Weapon 2. You can also choose other games and install BattlEye accordingly.

  1. Now install the configuration called »setup_BattlEyeARMA2«. Again, the selected game is Weapon 2. If you have any other game, repeat the steps.
