We have written several solutions to fix errors in Windows operating system. Windows has a lot of bugs as it ages. Therefore, these errors should be corrected accordingly. One of the most mocking bugs that are present in old versions of Windows, including Windows XP, as well as in the new versions, including Windows 8, is the error 0xc000000f.
This error is associated with the Windows Boot Manager and every time Windows tries to read the Boot Configuration Data, displays this error message which insists users to repair their PCs via Windows installation media.
Restarting PC after this error message does not work and this irritates users.
Reasons behind this error 0xc000000f:
The boot sector is important for loading Windows into memory in order to run. Then, if the boot sector gets corrupted for any reason, this error will resist Windows loading. The other cause of this error could be hard drive failure. If the hard drive has a bad sector or malware, it would also do the same by preventing windows from loading.
Solutions to fix error 0xc000000f:
There are several solutions to solve this problem. These solutions will definitely allow you to get back to your Windows without losing any important data..
Method 1: repair your computer
There's a saying: “Do what your boss asks you to do”. The same applies here. With every error within Windows, Microsoft provides some initial tips to get it back.
To do this, need to have a DVD / Genuine Windows Bootable USB. If you don't have it, follow these messages to create the boot device.
-
Windows 7 / Windows 8:
-
Windows 10:
After creating the DVD / Bootable USB, we will have to select the appropriate boot device, to do this, go to your system BIOS by pressing F2 (varies from system to system) and select Boot Order. Bring your DVD / USB to the top as the first boot device.
Save the configuration changes and restart your PC again. Now, it will boot up using your startup media and start to repair your Windows automatically.
Method 2: using the bootrec.exe tool
To correct this error message, you can use the bootrec.exe tool which is built into Windows. This method also requires a DVD / USB bootable Windows installation. The main purpose of using this tool is to rebuild the boot configuration data (BCD) that control how Windows starts.
Then, to access the bootrec.exe tool, follow the instructions below.
1. Restart your computer and use the DVD / Bootable USB to boot.
2. If you are prompted for the key, press any button on the keyboard.
3. Select language, The time, coin and keyboard and click Next.
4. Select the operating system you want to repair and click Next.
5. Now, under System Recovery Options, select Command Prompt.
6. A black screen will appear with a blinking cursor. Type bootrec.exe at the command prompt and hit the Enter key on your keyboard. It will start to rebuild the BCD and your PC will return to its normal state.
For some reason, if the BCD rebuild doesn't work, you need to remove the old BCD and rebuild it again to have some fresh boot configuration data. To do this, you must type the following commands inside the command line. Press Enter after each line of code.
bcdedit /export C:BCD_Backup c: cd boot attrib bcd -s -h -r ren c:bcd bcd. viejo bootrec / RebuildBcd
Method 3: repair the BCD
In this solution, we will show the BCD file and its main partition so that we can repair it or create a new BCD file from scratch.
-
First, you will need a Windows media installation 8 O 10 that is on a USB formatted with a FAT32 file system. A UEFI-based system like yours will not recognize an NTFS-formatted USB as a boot device.
-
To create a Windows installation media 8, must have a USB drive of 4 GB or more completely empty. Now download the Windows Media Creation Tool 8 from this link.
-
Run the downloaded file and click Yes if the UAC warning message appears. Select any edition, language and architecture, since it won't actually install Windows. Now click Next.
-
Select your USB drive and click Next. Make sure your USB is connected to the computer.
-
Wait for the process to complete and follow the instructions on the screen.
-
Once you have the installation media ready, connect USB to faulty computer.
-
Now turn on that computer and boot by pressing the appropriate key to boot from another device. The key may vary depending on the manufacturer and model of your computer.
-
However, if you can't boot from USB, make sure the CSM and Secure Boot features are disabled in your BIOS setup.
-
When in the boot device selection screen, select your USB.
-
Once you are on the installation screen, press and hold the Shift key and hit F10 to bring up a black window called Command Prompt.
-
In the, write
diskpart
Enter pulse.
-
Now type list disk and hit Enter to list all the storage disks connected to your computer.
-
Now write
disco cell 0
Press Enter to select your Windows disk 8 in the.
-
Type list vol and hit Enter to list all volumes
-
Now you have to acknowledge 2 volumes here, the EFI volume and the volume on which Windows is installed.
-
Your EFI volume will have FAT32 written in column Fs. Its size will be 100 MB and will have System written in Info. What's more, can have BOOTSTRAP written in the Label column. This is how you will recognize your EFI volume. Write down your volume number. If you can't find your EFI volume, Continue with the next solution.
-
Your Windows partition will probably have the C in the Ltr column and there will be Boot written in the Information column. Register your Ltr below.
-
First, we will assign a letter to the EFI volume. To do this, type select Volume 1 and press Enter (assuming the Volume 1 is your EFI volume).
-
Now write
assign the letter P
Press enter (assuming the letter K is not in use).
-
Type exit and hit enter.
-
Now write
cd / d P:NefiN- microsoftNboot
and hit Enter.
-
Nice
bootrec / fixboot
Press Enter and a new boot sector will be created.
-
Now, type ren BCD BCD.bak to render the old BCD file unusable, as it may be damaged, which now allows us to create a new BCD file.
-
Now write
bcdboot C:NWindows /l en-us /s k: /f ALL
Press enter (assuming C is the Ltr drive for the volume on which Windows is installed).
Now close the black window and restart your computer. Should start right now. If that is not the case, go to the next solution.
Method 4: create an EFI partition
If for some reason your EFI partition is missing, you can easily create a new. All you need is a Windows installation media and 200 MB of free disk space.
To do this, follow the above solution method to create Windows installation media and boot from USB then go to black command prompt window.
-
In the black window, type Diskpart and hit Enter.
-
Now type list disk and hit Enter.
-
Escriba select disk 0 and hit Enter to select the disk on which you want to create a new EFI partition.
-
Now type list partition and press Enter to list all partitions.
-
Type Select Partition 1 and hit Enter assuming the selected partition will have 200 MB or more of free space.
-
Now write
shrink desired = 200 minimum = 200
Enter pulse.
-
Nice
create efi partition
Enter pulse.
-
Again now, scribe
partition list
Enter pulse.
-
Type select partition 2 and hit Enter assuming the partition 200 Newly created MB is partition 2.
-
Now write
format fs = fat32
Enter pulse.
-
Type list vol and hit Enter to list all volumes. Make a note of the volume of the partition 200 Newly created MB.
-
Type Select Volume 3 and press Enter assuming the volume number of the EFI partition you noted above is 3.
-
Type assign and press Enter.
-
Again, type list vol and hit Enter to see what letter (ltr) is assigned to the EFI partition of 200 MB. Make a note of the drive letter.
-
What's more, you will need to recognize and note the drive letter (ltr) of the volume containing your Windows partition. You can recognize it by looking for Boot in the information column. In most cases, this is drive letter C. Anótela.
-
Now write
bcdboot C:NWindows / l en-gb / s B: /f ALL
and hit Enter. Assuming Windows drive letter is C and B is the drive letter that was assigned to your EFI partition.
-
Now reboot your system. Your problem should go away now.
Then, in the end, you will have your PC back in your hands, as all your problems related to error 0xc000000f will be solved. If it still persists, try using startup repair to fix your startup issues and see if it helps.
