Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) is an important command line tool to control your Android device from your computer. With ADB you can run many useful commands to back up your data, side loading .zip files that would otherwise flash in a custom recovery, unlock your bootloader on Nexus devices and various other uses to debug your android mobile.

Installing the BDA on a Windows machine is a fairly simple but complicated procedure. This guide will guide you from start to finish.

How to install the BDA in Windows?

  1. Go to the web portal of SDK de Android y navegue hasta »SDK Tools Only«. Download the version for your platform. download-sdk-tools-7675124Download SDK tools

  2. Open SDKManager.Exe and choose only »Android SDK Platform Tools» for installation. If you have a Nexus phone, additionally you must select »Google USB Driver«. When you click Install, will start downloading the necessary files to your computer. adb-1-2053862Downloading the Android SDK Platform Tools

  3. Enable USB debugging on your device. ADB will only work on your device when USB debugging is enabled. USB debugging is regularly found in Developer Options, so if you haven't enabled Developer Options yet, go to Settings> About of the phone> press »Build number» 7 times, and you will get an alert that Developer Options is enabled. Now you can enter Developer Options to enable USB debugging. allow-usb-debugging-8933350Allow USB debugging

  4. Navigate to the folder on your PC where the SDK tools were installed. Shift + right click on the folder and select »Open command window here«.

  5. Connect your android mobile to your computer via USB (make sure you are using the data cable, not the charging cable). If prompted on the device, choose mode »file transfer (MTP)«. Now in the terminal command type:

    adb devices

adb-2-2968235Attached device list

It should show that your device is connected. If no device is displayed on the command line, you may need to download the specific USB drivers for your phone from the manufacturer's web portal.

Now you need to set your system path so that you can always run ADB commands from command terminal without having to run it from SDK tools folder. The methods are almost the same, but a little different between Windows 7, 8 Y 10.

Add ADB to the system path for Windows 7, 8

  1. Go to Control Panel> System> Security and click the button »Advanced system settings«, then click on »Environment variables«. adb-3-2919885Edit environment variables

  2. Look for the variable named »Path» in it to highlight it, then click on »Edit«.

  3. Add your ADB folder to the end of the variable value, no spaces, preceded by a semicolon. As an example:

    ;C:N-Android Platform Tools

Add ADB to the system path in Windows 10

Follow the steps above until 3 . Instead of adding the string to a pre-existing variable string, just click “Add new” in the environment variable box that opens. Just add your ADB folder and hit enter.

Useful BDA Commands List

  • adb install C: package.apk: install an .apk package from your C: Na on your Android device.

  • adb uninstall package.name: uninstall an application package from your device: the package name would be the specific name of the application package as seen on your device, as an example, com.facebook.katana

  • adb push C: file / sdcard / file – Copy a file from your C: to your device's SD card.

  • adb pull / sdcard / file C: N- The reverse side of ADB push.

  • adb logcat: view the log from your Android device.
