▷ How to print in black and white on Mac

Contents

If you are a new Mac user and need to print a black and white or grayscale page, you don't need any special software to do it. However, the black and white printing available on your Mac is directly dependent on the printer you use.

Note: some printers do not support black and white printing. If this is the case, can't force printer (that does not support black and white printing) to have a capacity that your hardware does not support.

If your printer supports black and white printing, this is how you can do it on a Mac.

  1. While your document or image is opening (in the right application: TextEdit, Microsoft Word, Pages, Preview, etc.) click the File menu and select Print.

  2. In the Print Options window, click Show details (if available) to reveal more information about the printing procedure. If you see Hide details instead of Show details, you can proceed to the next step.

  3. Now, depending on your printer, you may or may not see a black and white lever in the Print Options window.

  4. If available, just flip that switch and you can print your document or image.

  5. If not available, click the unlabeled app drop down menu (check the picture below).

Note: note that the field names may vary depending on the printer model. Sometimes, the grayscale option can be called Mono, o Black cartridge only, the something similar. What's more, the position of these fields may be different.

Create a black and white preset

If you frequently print documents in black and white, you can create a preset with these settings and use it instead by repeating this procedure whenever you need to print in black and white.

  1. Click on the Preset drop-down menu at the top of the Pring Option window.

  2. Choose Save current settings as default …

    preset-1522142

  3. Enter a name for your shortlist (for example, black and white).

  4. Choose if you want to save it for the current printer or for all printers.

  5. Click Save.
