Multiple router users / modems report that they cannot access or configure the TP-Link device. For the majority (yes not all) of TP-Link models, accessing tplinkwifi.net from your browser should take you to your router settings / modem; well, for some reason, this does not happen. Most affected users report that the problem persists even after they have performed a reboot on the modem / router.

What is causing the error “tplinkwifi.net does not work”?
We investigated this particular bug by looking at various user reports. From what we have collected, there are several common scenarios that will trigger this particular error message:
-
A security feature prevents access to the administration page: Most TP-Link models include a security feature that will prevent access to the configuration page if the router / model has not been restarted for a long period. In this case, a simple solution is to simply reboot the device and try again.
-
The computer is not configured to allow automatic IP assignment: this is one of the most common causes of this error, especially in those cases where the user completed the initial setup from the TP-Links utility (Easy Setup Assistant). In this case, the solution is to reconfigure Windows to allow automatic IP and DNS assignment.
-
The modem / router is not configured to use tplinkwifi.net as configuration address: some TP-link models (particularly older models) they won't open the settings screen if tplinkwifi.net is typed into the browser's navigation bar. In these cases, it is preferable to use the default IP addresses.
-
Error de firmware: there are reports that point to a bug preventing TP-Link users from accessing the settings page while connected to the Wi-Fi network. In this case, the solution is to disable the wireless component or update the device to the latest firmware version.
If you are having difficulty finding a solution capable of resolving this particular error, This article will provide you with several effective troubleshooting steps. Then, you will discover a selection of methods that other users in a similar situation have used to solve the problem.
For best results, follow the methods in the order they are presented until you discover a solution that works for your particular scenario.
Method 1: reboot the router
If you haven't rebooted your router / modem for a long period of time, it is very likely that you will not be able to access the configuration screen due to a security function.
Most of the TP-Link models have a security model that blocks the opening of the tplinkwifi.net page if there is no customer registered on the administration page for a period of time. Fortunately, the page can be accessed again after restarting the modem or router.
Note: If you determined that this was causing the problem but you find this feature annoying, you can most likely get rid of this security feature by updating your firmware version to the latest. On most models, TP-Link decided to get rid of this feature, so you can get rid of it by downloading the latest firmware for your particular model. But we only recommend that you do this if you are familiar with the firmware update process for a router / model.

If this method was not applicable or you still have this problem, proceed to the next method below.
Method 2: access the IP address directly
Please note that not all TP-Link models are configured to open the router settings screen / modem when entering tplinkwifi.net. And even if yours is, this method is not as reliable as entering the assigned IP address directly into your browser.
If the page loads indefinitely or you receive some kind of error when trying to access tplinkwifi.net, try to access one of the two directly assigned IP addresses:
Try typing the above two addresses in any browser, press Enter and see if any of them take you to the settings menu of your browser.

If the two IP addresses mentioned above end up producing the same results, continue with next method.
Method 3: reinstall the router using the Easy Setup Wizard
If you are looking for a solution that avoids a lot of research, the best way to solve this problem is to use the easy setup wizard (a utility from TP-Link that makes initial setup easy).
But before running the utility, it is very important to verify that your computer is configured to obtain the IP address automatically. Without this method enabled, the settings will not be willing to allow the router to assign the address to the computer so that it can communicate properly.
Note: Please note that this method may not be applicable as not all TP-Link models are configured to use the Easy Setup Wizard.
Here is a quick guide on how to configure the computer to obtain the IP address automatically and how to use the easy setup wizard to make tplinkwifi.net accessible:
