MSI is known for its powerful range of desktop motherboards, as well as for its marketing of “Military Clas s »(that means absolutely nothing) on your hardware, but despite questionable marketing slogans, there is no denying that MSI includes solid hardware compared to other brands like Gigabyte, ASRock y ASUS.
Updating the BIOS on an MSI motherboard is easy, but there may be complications, so it is better to create a restore point before continuing. The purpose of this guide is to walk you through updating the mobo BIOS and to address some potential issues that may arise after updating the update..
Requirements:
A formatted USB disk
The first thing to do is go to the MSI support website and find your motherboard model in the box “Find product”.
When your product is displayed, Click the button “Descargar”. You will access a menu of available BIOS updates, drivers and utilities. Make sure you are on the BIOS tab and download the latest available BIOS update.
When i click download, you will receive a .zip file containing the BIOS update. You now have two options for the update. You can do any of them:

Extract the archive and copy the files inside the extracted folder – not the extracted folder itself – to the root directory of a formatted USB drive. This is the recommended method.

Copy the extracted folder to a USB disk and run the .exe updater from the extracted folder to update BIOS from Windows environment. This is not the recommended method, because things they can go terribly wrong, but it is an available method.
If you have copied the files to a USB device
Restart your desktop computer and at the MSI logo press the DEL key on your keyboard to enter BIOS.
Now navigate to the M-FLASH menu and it will ask you to choose the USB. Just click on the USB storage containing the updated files and you will go through the process. If you receive an error message that the USB does not contain any files to update, you have not copied them correctly to the USB. Make sure the files are within the root directory of the USB storage by themselves, not inside a folder.
When the M-FLASH utility is complete, it will simply display a countdown timer of 5 seconds before restarting the computer. If you have followed this method successfully, go to the troubleshooting section of this guide to troubleshoot possible errors.
If you are running the .exe updater on Windows
This is a terrible idea and even MSI recommends against doing it., but sometimes we are too lazy to check the BIOS and this method works the 98% weather. Is the other 2% of the time which can cause horrible bricks on the motherboard, so be careful.
Just double click on the .exe file you have copied to the USB drive and the updater will ask you to confirm. Please ignore the screenshot that says your BIOS is already the latest version because it is a screenshot from my own computer. Basically, just click on “I agree” and OK and the updater will carry out the process and then restart your computer.
Problem resolution
P: Help! Windows won't start / computer restarts after motherboard logo.
R: Well, what basically happened is that after updating the BIOS, all BIOS settings you had have been reset to default or changed in some way. The most likely culprit here is that the hard drive mode was changed to AHCI, IDE o RAID.
So just press DEL on the MSI logo to enter BIOS setup and go to Settings> Advanced> Integrated peripherals.
Now look next to SATA mode, if in AHCI mode, cámbielo a IDE. If you are in IDE mode, change it to AHCI. Save and exit to reboot, and Windows should start normally.
P: After BIOS update, Is my computer trying to boot from a CD or USB?
R: The BIOS update probably did something to your boot sequence. Just enter BIOS and select the appropriate boot device by going to Settings> start, and make sure your hard drive is the first entry in the boot sequence, as it's shown in the following.
