The methods we prepare can sometimes be applied only to console players, PC users or all. We hope that at least one method can help you with your problem., no matter what platform you use to play.
What Causes Monster Hunter World Error Code 5038f MW1?
The error is usually caused by incompatibilities with your router, which often accidentally locks your console from properly connecting to the internet. This can only be fixed by assigning a static IP to your console and putting its IP in the DMZ (Demilitarized zone).
PC users who have the game on Steam can try disabling the Steam overlay, since it helped a lot of people.
Console user solution: add your console to the DMZ on your router
Playing online games with the console can be quite tricky as the console's IP can change from time to time. After fixing your IP, you will need to add it to the DMZ (Demilitarized zone) where you should be safe without connection problems.
The first thing is to find out the IP of their respective consoles:
PlayStation users 4:
-
In the main menu of PlayStation 4, select Settings >> Red >> View connection status.

-
Find the IP address on the screen that opens and be sure to write it down somewhere, as you will need it to enable port forwarding. Make sure to also write the MAC address of your PS4.
Xbox One users:
-
Navigate to the home screen and press the menu button on your Xbox one controller.
-
Go to Settings >> Red >> Advanced configuration.

-
In the IP configuration section, you should see the IP address listed. Make a note of this number because you will have to assign the IP address later.
-
You should also see the wired MAC address or the wireless MAC address listed in the IP settings. Write down the address of 12 digits of the connection you are using.
Now we will have to assign static IP addresses to the consoles by following the following steps:
-
Open an internet browser, enter the default gateway number (IP adress) in the address bar and press Enter.
-
Enter your username and password to access your router interface. The default username and password should appear in the router documentation, on a label on the side of the router or on the Port Forward website.

-
First, locate the Enable manual mapping option and click the radio button next to Yes. The option name may be different or the option may not be present at all.
-
Locate the window that allows you to enter the MAC address and the IP address of your choice, so enter the addresses you have gathered in the steps above for your respective console.

-
Once this is done, click on the Add option and you will have already added the IP address of your console to the router.
Now, we will need to add the IP address of your console to the DMZ, which is a setting found in the menu after entering the router with an internet browser from a device connected to it.
-
Open an internet browser, enter the default gateway number (IP adress) in the address bar and press Enter. Make sure to log in the same way as before!!

-
Look for the DMZ option in your router's Settings tab. The option is always in a different location, but most likely it will appear in the Security tab or something similar.
-
Choose the DMZ option and enter the static IP address you assigned to your console. If everything goes fine, your console should now have internet access. After making these changes, make sure to turn off the router and console and wait a couple of minutes.
-
Turn on the console, launch Monster Hunter and see if the error code still appears.
Solution for Steam users: disable Steam overlay and other game settings
Users who own the game on Steam can use this helpful method to possibly solve their problem by disabling the Steam overlay for the game.. It works for some people, while others claim that it does nothing, but it's worth a try.
-
Open Steam on your computer by double-clicking its entry on the desktop or by searching for it in the Start menu.
-
Navigate to the Library tab in the Steam window by locating the Library tab at the top of the window and locate Monster Hunter in the list of games you have in your respective library.
-
Right-click on the game icon in the list and choose Properties from the context menu that appears. Click the Set Launch Options button.

-
Write “-nofriendsui -udp -nofriendsui -tcp” in the bar. If there are other startup options located there that you may be using, be sure to separate this with a space. Click the OK button to confirm the changes.
-
Try launching the game from the Library tab and see if the Monster Hunter World error code still appears: 5038f-MW1.
