Intel Rapid Storage Technology is a Windows-based application that improves the reliability and performance of systems where the attached disks are SATA disks.. When using one or more SATA drives, you can take advantage of better performance and lower power consumption. What's more, when using more than one SATA disk, protection against data loss can be increased in the event of a power outage, etc.
Many cases were observed where users reported that they had an icon present on the right side of their taskbar indicating that RST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) it's not working. This may be mainly because the service is not running or its startup type is not configured correctly. Let's take a look at the solutions to fix this problem.
Solution 1: Check in Task Manager
Before changing application service settings, we can check if Intel Rapid Storage technology is running or not. There are many cases where the application is configured correctly but not in a running state in task manager.
-
Press Windows + R, scribe “taskmgr” in the dialog box and press Enter.
-
Once in the task manager, search for the service »Intel Rapid Storage Technology«. If it is not running, click on it and select Start. Save the changes and exit the task manager.
-
Now check if the application starts properly.
Solution 2: change startup state
If you are still having trouble starting the app, can change app startup state. There are many types of launching an application. It can be a delayed automatic state, one manual, etc. We will change the state to automatic so that every time the computer starts, Intel Rapid Storage Technology starts by itself. Please note that you may need administrative privileges to perform this solution.
-
Press Windows + R, type »services» in the dialog box and press Enter.
-
Once in Services, browse the full list of services and locate the service »Intel Rapid Storage Technology«.
-
Double click on it to open its properties. Change the startup type from “Automatic (delay start)” a “Automatic”. Press Apply to save changes and exit.
-
Restart your computer and see if the problem in question has been resolved.
Solution 3: update Intel RST driver
If the above two solutions don't work for your computer, we can try to update the Intel RST driver. Before updating it, we can try to uninstall the disk drive driver and then install the default one, so if current driver is corrupted, can be removed. Please note that in this solution you will need an active internet connection.
-
Press + R, type »devmgmt. msc »in the dialog box and hit Enter.
-
Once in device manager, open the subcategory »Disk Controller«. Find the platform that supports Intel Rapid Storage Technology, right-click and select »Uninstall device«.
-
Now right-click on any empty space and select »Scan for hardware changes«. The default drivers will now be installed.
-
Then, navigate to official Intel downloads, type »Intel rapid» in the dialog box and, in the results, seleccione »Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel®RST)«.
-
From the list of controller options, download the executable »SetupRST. exe “. Save it in an accessible place and run the executable.
-
After installing the software, restart your computer and see if the problem in question has been resolved.
Note: It should be noted that the problem will not be resolved if the Intel RST software has been installed on a drive that does not support the mechanism. Then, we cannot force it to run as there are various hardware aspects that must be there for the service to run. The error will only be resolved if your drive supports Intel RST.
