Method 1: Recovery disk

If you are on a PC and have already created a recovery disc before, this is the time to use it. Even with the error, keyboard, CD and USB drives will continue to work. Insert recovery CD or USB into drive and hit ctrl + alt + erase to restart the computer. While it starts, press f12 to boot from CD or USB, according to the case. Select to perform Windows repair. The computer should boot smoothly after repair without the 0xC000000d error.

See here for a complete guide on how to run Windows Recovery.

Method 2: recovery to Microsoft Surface device

If you find this error on your Microsoft Surface device, then the procedure for creating and running Windows Recovery will be slightly different from the procedure previously described for your computer.

Recover your BitLocker recovery key

The first thing to do when you encounter this error on your Surface is locate the location where you stored the BitLocker recovery, since the Surface tablet is most likely encrypted with BitLocker. BitLocker must have been stored online or on a USB. If the account is joined to a domain, ask the administrator for help to receive it.

If you don't have your recovery key handy, follow the steps on the Microsoft BitLocker recovery FAQ page to see if it helps.

Without the recovery key, there is no way to enter the system to perform any recovery. It should go directly to the method 3 if you don't have BitLocker recovery.

Create a recovery drive

Since the surface runs Windows 10, you can create a recovery drive from another Windows computer 10. Just connect a USB flash drive to your computer and follow the wizard to create a Windows recovery drive 10. Find Create a recovery drive in the Start menu to locate the tool you need.

Change surface firmware to allow booting from USB drive

The next step is to configure the surface to boot from the USB drive by following the steps below.

Press and hold the power button long enough to make sure it is off.
Press and hold the volume button and then press and release the power button.
Press and hold the volume button until the Surface UEFI menu appears.

Para Surface Pro 3 y Surface 3, seleccione Determinar orden de inicio del sistema alternativo y seleccione USB> SSD.

Disable Secure Boot Control. License

Boot from USB

Restart the surface while holding the volume down button and release it when the surface logo disappears.

Vaya a Solución de problemas> Opciones avanzadas> Símbolo del sistema.

Run the following command lines in order:

bootrec / fixmbr

bootrec / fixboot

bootrec / scanos

bootrec / rebuildbcd

Exit the command window, reboot the surface.

Your surface should work fine afterwards.

Method 3: restart and update Windows

If all the methods fail or unfortunately you can't find your key and no other device manager can find a backup either, you will have to restore the PC to factory default settings. Choose this option only as a last resort, since it will delete your personal data from the PC. Although it helps protect your data against unauthorized access, it also prevents you from entering them again.

Depending on the Windows configuration, it is feasible that you can restore your computer's default settings directly from the Windows recovery screen.

If you see a link at the bottom of the recovery screen

Tap or click the More information on how to reset your PC to factory defaults link and then follow the instructions.

In some Windows configurations, you may need to start the recovery procedure with a button.

If you see buttons at the bottom of the recovery screen

Tap or click the Learn more about restarting your PC button and follow the instructions.

In other Windows settings, you may have the option to skip certain drives without unlocking them.

If you see an option to skip a drive

Tap or click the Bypass this drive link at the bottom of the BitLocker Drive Encryption screen to continue without unlocking the current drive.

If all BitLocker-encoded drives are skipped, a list of advanced startup and repair alternatives will appear to select from. Tap or click Repair and Restore Options, tap or click Other Repair Options and then tap or click Factory Reset and follow the instructions.
